BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) lets you use your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key for AI features inside BrandJet AI. When BYOK is enabled, prompts run on your provider account at your provider rates and BrandJet does not deduct AI credits.
Who BYOK is for
AppSumo Tier 4 lifetime buyers — BYOK is included.
SaaS customers on Pro and higher — BYOK is an optional override.
Teams that want to use higher-end models without consuming BrandJet credits.
Where to add your key
Open Settings → AI and Models.
Find the BYOK section.
Paste your OpenAI key (starts with
sk-) and your Anthropic key (starts withsk-ant-).Pick the default model you want to use for each provider.
Click Save. We validate the key against the provider before it goes live; if validation fails you will see the exact error.
If you do not see a BYOK section on AppSumo, confirm your tier in Settings → Billing → Plan. Only Tier 4 unlocks BYOK on the AppSumo plan today.
Which features use your key
When BYOK is set, your key is used for:
Artemis chat and agent actions
Sequence Assistant message generation
Personalization variables that call an LLM
Mentions classification
Workflow nodes that use AI
System utilities — embeddings, content classification, scoring — keep running on BrandJet infrastructure so your usage stays predictable.
Permissions and security
The key is stored encrypted and is only used by BrandJet AI services.
You can rotate or remove the key at any time from the same screen.
For OpenAI, create a project-scoped key with access to the models you plan to use. For Anthropic, create a workspace key.
Common errors
Invalid API key — the key is wrong, expired, or has no access to the chosen model. Generate a new key and retry.
Insufficient quota — your provider account does not have billing set up or has hit a spending limit.
Model not available — the key does not have access to that model tier. Pick a model your account is allowed to use.
Switching back to BrandJet credits
Clear the BYOK key on the same screen. AI features fall back to BrandJet pooled model access and start deducting credits again.
