If Artemis is showing an error instead of responding, the problem is almost always one of three things: a temporary AI provider outage, a session issue inside the dashboard, or an out-of-credits state.
Failed to initialize AI assistant. Please try again.
This is the most common error. Causes and fixes:
1. Workspace context missing
Artemis initialises with your workspace context (brand voice, ICP, settings). If the context could not be loaded, initialization fails.
Open Artemis → Settings → Workspace context and check that the brand and industry fields are populated.
Save the context and start a new chat.
2. Out of AI credits
If your plan AI credit balance is empty, Artemis cannot run.
Open Settings → Billing → Usage and check AI credits.
Upgrade, buy a credit pack, or wait for the next reset.
BYOK users: confirm the key in Settings → AI and Models is still valid and has provider quota.
3. AI provider outage
Occasionally OpenAI or Anthropic has a regional outage that prevents new sessions from initialising. Check status.openai.com or status.anthropic.com; if there is an active incident, retry in 5 to 15 minutes.
4. Stale session token
Sign out, sign back in, and try again. If you signed in across multiple tabs, the session token can desync between them.
Image upload causes the message to disappear
Known issue. The current Artemis chat uploads images as part of the message; if the upload fails (network glitch or unsupported file type), the message can be dropped silently.
Use PNG, JPG, or WEBP under 5 MB.
If the message disappears, retype it and re-attach.
For PDFs or larger files, summarise the relevant content as text rather than uploading the file.
A fix that shows an explicit upload error rather than silently dropping the message is rolling out shortly.
Chat is slow or stops mid-response
Long responses sometimes pause when the model hits a token limit. Click Continue at the bottom of the response.
If responses regularly stop, lower the response length in Artemis Settings → Verbosity.
Premium models are slower than standard models. If you do not need premium quality, switch to standard for faster responses.
Artemis cannot see my recent data
Artemis reads from the workspace at the moment a chat starts. If you just added new leads or campaigns mid-chat, start a new chat so the read happens again.
Specific tool failures
When Artemis tries to take an action (apply a filter, push to CRM, send a message), it sometimes errors with a specific tool name in the response. Common ones:
filter_leads failed — the filter syntax was invalid. Ask Artemis to retry with a simpler filter.
send_message blocked — the action requires your confirmation. Click the confirmation button in the chat.
crm_sync failed — the CRM integration is disconnected. Reconnect in Settings → Integrations.
When to open a ticket
If none of the above resolve the issue, open a ticket with:
The exact error text or screenshot.
The timestamp the error happened.
Whether you are on BYOK or pooled credits.
We can pull the Artemis request log and see which step failed.
